Now, if I go to his handy dandy stat card, he is the director of industry solutions, marketing with Hitachi Ventura, done a lot of work with a dodgy Vantara great people, great company, always dedicated to solving problems. They love it. Love it, let's, oh, we're going to be talking, we're going to be talking utilities. Now. You know, I'm always geeking out my background, utilities, climate towers, satin poles doing what I did with Southern California Edison, and enjoyed every moment. So I geek out on this stuff. So just, you know, buckle in, because we're gonna have a great time, let's get cracking with the conversation. Of course, like, I just love this stuff. There's a lot of great challenges out there, within the utility spaces, digital transformation, what do we do? How do we support the future going forward? How do we create a stable grid? How do we solve problems, so that we can, you know, be more renewable, whatever it might be, whatever that focus needs to be, we've got to have a really nimble type of grid to be able to handle all of these wonderful, wonderful ideas and thinking out there that are being brought to you by those Hitachi Vantara. And other companies that are pushing the envelope innovative, they're gonna solve the problem so that when you flip that light switch on, light comes on. You don't have to worry about flickering or doing anything. That's what they bring to the table before I get a correction on that. Couple of things. One, I've just came back from Denver, and if you've never been to Denver, great people. Yes. Good food, absolutely. Beautiful. Oh, baby, we we climbed a mountain. But they have some great companies out there with great people. And I was very fortunate, very honored, very</p>

<p>excited to be able to work with a company called cap logistics now, you know, as well as I do, you've got logistics, you've got the supply chain challenges, you've got sourcing issues, you've got all of that wrapped up into what do we do? How do we how do we solve some of the problems? cap logistics is a company that is right at the edge trying to figure this out, trying to and and they've got the street guide as credit to prove it, right. They've got the street cred. Cap logistics, a great company. So they opened some doors for me to be able to meet with some great leaders within the Denver Colorado area. And I want to just give a shout out to the water design build Council. So I was able to meet with them. And you know what? They're talking about? Yeah, water. They're talking about solving problems. They're talking about addressing the issues that we have today, right? Today, because well, between you and me, one we take the water for granted to ride. When we pull it out of the tap, we just know that it's, you know, going to be okay. Water design build council wants to keep that moving forward, working with some great, great engineering firms to make that happen. Talking about and solving problems that are impacting water today. The next one is the Colorado Business Roundtable. It is made up of professionals within the Colorado area, big time professionals. Again, looking at ways of being able to solve problems collaborating, innovation, you name it, educating it's happening there. The Executive Director, Debbie Brown is an incredible leader making it wonderful solutions available with this particular organization. Working closely with them. She's got a passion to definitely solve problems and and again, again, we collaborate right? We collaborate because we do not have all the answers and the Colorado business roundtable definitely has made that a point. The other one was a fun trip to whistling hair distillery this is this is a business that was developed by a gentleman by the name of Sandy Roth. His pedigree is Deloitte. He Has heaps with them forever. You go out to whistling hair, get the tour, see the passion. It's like mad scientists, all of the stuff incredible, incredible opportunity. And and of course, a decent product know a really good product beyond decent. They are passionate, it's fun seeing them talk about what they do. The one that I geeked out probably the most is with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. So I met with George sparks. He is the the executive director there. And it's a museum, right? I love learning I love and what they're trying to do and what they're working on is to be able to pull in what our hat what's happening in the community and reflect that in the museum. What is important to people in the community? And how do we continue to educate? How do we continue to develop insights to, you know, for a better tomorrow. They just, I'm telling you, a guy that like me that that'll go to a museum, you're looking at a guy that just gets off all squishy and just loves that stuff. That's the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, you got to go out there, you got to just do it, go to Denver, because it's pretty cool. And then finally, I was able to meet with a young lady by the name of Michelle Barnes, head of HHS, talked a little bit about what's happening within the Denver, Colorado State as a whole. What are they doing? How are they doing it? She's She's caught a lot of passion. A lot of it's just pretty bright. So there's a lot of wonderful conversations that had taken place in Colorado, again, very appreciative to cap logistics for giving me the opportunity to meet with all of these wonderful, wonderful professionals in the Denver area. One last thing because we're always about this. Now two last things. One, the manufacturing technology show Cleveland, Ohio, been to Cleveland, wonderful community, this is November 9, through the 11th it is theirs, it's two you can be there in person is there's a virtual boom, you just got to be there because manufacturing is being impacted by digital transformation each and every day. must must no more. <p>Absolutely. So yeah, I'm Shamik Mehta. I am a director of industry solutions marketing at Hitachi Ventura. I'm based here in sunny California in the Bay Area. Our headquarters are in Santa Clara for Hitachi Ventura. That's where we are But as always, as you can tell from behind me. And staying busy with a lot of activities in data management and understanding how utilities that oil and gas and energy industries are evolving, how we're a grid is getting modern and more and more communicative with each other. How electrification is evolving everywhere? And how can technologies and software help ease that problem? My background is in renewable energy. I worked for six years in a company called sun Edison, which was a very large IPP, or independent power producer. At one point it was</p>

<p>sun Edison, what Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, what do they do? What what type of assets do they have?</p>

<p>So son Edison is a solar and wind IPP was a solar and wind independent power producer. So they were they invented the power purchase agreement. If you know what that is,</p>

<p>yes, that's where negotiate ISO fours, ISO, ISO ones, firm contracts as available contracts. I know a little bit about them.</p>

<p>Awesome, then you're on the same page, but suddenly decided that and it was a very large ship up to a three gigawatt pipeline of solar and wind and energy storage projects around the world, where I was the director of operations for our battery based energy storage products, added product management, Product Marketing for everything from heterogeneous transistor cells, a JT cells that go into the modules or panels as they're called to the micro inverters on the back of the panels to single axis trackers that hold the machines that points the panels of the sun and track it around for 20% extra gain. And then energy storage systems with lithium ion batteries and the controller and inverters and everything all built into argument and, you know, flattened out before the shoulders when the sun starts to dip with energy storage, or when wind starts to die down. So the fascinating run losers, I understand we'll get into it. Don't</p>

<p>get me wrong, we'll get into it. However, this is an interesting coverage. Were you familiar with solar one down and Daggett? Yes. That was those are interesting. That's an interesting technology, because to your point, they're tracking the sun, shining it up on a collector and I think at that particular time, the last iteration was salt, melting salt, so that they can generate steam at night.</p>

<p>Yes, CSP, concentrated solar power. And yeah, parabolic mirrors that we're used to I mean, if you apply where Las Vegas you can see those giant fields where they're aggregating right there, all those all the panels are all the mirrors are reflecting and collecting into a single collector. And that is used to get so hot that it it melts the molten salt and other gases, and it creates energy storage out of it. pretty fascinating. and bright. That's very, very bright. You can see a train to break away. He did. Yes, you can. Again, I</p>

<p>got it. I gotta go around. So now it's when they were, I remember as a younger man, watching them get into the focus. So they're taking those mirrors and they're interesting. I'm not on the the collector, but above it. Right? Yeah, it would just be this white spot</p>

<p>in the house. Yes. Amazing. But you know, the great thing is we're barely tapped into the power of the sun. Did you know that every minute, the earth gets enough photon energy from the sun to power our entire world's energy needs for an entire year. In one minute, one minute, in one minute, we get enough energy from the photon. From all the photons that hit us, from the sun to power our entire world's energy needs for one year.</p>

<p>Think about that. Instead, we exactly. I was at a conference where Elon Musk was talking and he said that if you were to take 1/8 of the state of Nevada and turn it into solar panels you can power to walk away Yeah, I</p>

<p>don't heard that one either. That's that's Yeah, I mean to It's incredible how much the sun has a conversation to talk about later because I'm telling you right now that that's an interesting and staggering stack. I'm gonna I'm just I'm just telling you that that's there's plenty of room out there in Vegas, too. They could probably do it this time. All right. Let's talk a little bit about when I when I was a utility lineman when I was in utilities. The model the the the actual power model, power Gen grid utility model is pretty basic, pretty straightforward. Big thermal generating assets, transmission lines, substations and so on. As as time has gone on. We use to negotiate power purchase agreements, and we used to bring online assets that were considered alternative. Now were they efficient, somewhere somewhere, not it just is what it is. But we had to begin to address and and recognize that these generations shorts are on the grid. And we always had trouble with winnt var sucking, stable grid challenges all the stuff in the San Gorgonio Pass Tehachapi. And we had to figure something out. Fast forward to today, where you stand where, where we stand, and where we talk about digital transformation, the journey and how it's impacting the utility. What is the utility the grid, the people dealing with today? With that reality? And how are we going to solve that problem, it's going to happen it is happening, what do we do?</p>

<p>It is happening, we call that decentralization and diversification. And what that means is you like you rightly said, energy used to be or still is generated in a nuclear power plant, or at a hydro dam, or at a large facility somewhere, usually very far away from a city, or where the people who need that electricity to reside. And then that electricity is transmitted over, you know, high tension cables, alongside highways that you see everywhere, that 122,000 140,000 volts, and transferred 1000s or 10s, of 1000s of miles to and then distributed and broken down into smaller and smaller steps with transformers and other HVDC equipment, high voltage DC equipment, and then eventually they will come to your home at 120 volt range, right. But it's a long journey that those that electron took from a nuclear plant or a dam somewhere in the Sierras. In California, for example, to where I live here in Silicon Valley. That's a traditional model of electricity generation, transmission distribution, and consumption by the end user being right, that's what they call the energy value chain. Today, it's becoming less and less disrupted, disrupted, because what's happening is, people are realizing that you can generate energy cleanly closer to where it's going to be consumed. So your solar rooftops, or a parking lot, or a college or a school, or a large Home Depot type of a box store where the roots are viable, you can put a lot of solar panels and generate electricity, where it's going to be consumed. So that traditional model of generating electricity from far and transmitting and distributing it down to the retail level has changed significantly and is undergoing even faster change as we speak.</p>

<p>So what's interesting, where you we we've sort of painted the historical picture is that the value chain was wonder it's almost like just one direction, like, big, cut it in half, cut it down all the way down to the consumer level where we can just, you know, run that blender, and that's, I can follow that. And, and things on the other side of the transformer. It wasn't going the other way. Now, when we start talking about now, we're, we're going back, I have a solar planner, I can I can pump it back into the grid.</p>

<p>Yes, that's where the positive things right? Right. So and you do this, for the most part, especially in the USA have done a very good job of honoring that power, the distributed power that's been generated, not everywhere, but for the most part, it works quite well. So for here in California, for example, we will, our utilities will allow us to give rebates to customers whose meters run backwards. And that's literally what happens. In the middle of the day, solar panels on my house may generate five to seven kilowatts of energy. But if nobody's home, the home is barely consuming about a kilowatt, or maybe three kilowatts, depending upon air conditioning, and you know, refrigeration needs, but there's no lighting, there's no fans, there's nothing else really happening. There's no electric charging of cars, because the cars have gone to work for the owners. So when that happens, the excess energy can be pumped back into the grid, and the meter literally reverses. You remember the old style meters, which had a little disk that spun on it, right. And as the more electricity you use, the faster returns and it's your measured, your bill is measured based upon those revolutions, it took a while literally the mirrors would slow down to the point that they turned reverse and the disk spins backwards because now your home is generating electricity and giving it back to the grid. And when that happens, utilities often will give you credit for that doesn't happen everywhere. But in the more progressive states, they will pay you back for that money, which is fantastic because now you have electricity flowing in both directions. And with smart meters, electronic meters, which has got instrumentation in it. A combination of computers, a combination of wireless internet connectivity, and power or battery power is enough to power that information about how much energy is being used and how much of energy is being pushed back into the grid. And all of that is available now. In real time,</p>

<p>but it has to be done in real time. I mean, if I'm asked to make if I, if if I'm a utility, and I'm trying to, you know, I'm pretty simple in in matching my supply and my demand, I've got to have the right amount of, you know, electrons meeting the right amount of demand and being able to balance that anymore and he lasts. But that model that you just spoke of requires that quick insight,</p>
<p>20:28</p>
<p>right? Yes, it has to, you need to know right away, because what happens when suddenly the somebody comes home and plugs in their Eb charger, because the AV came home from work a little bit early, all of a sudden that that demand and the amount of current that's going back into the grid needs to reverse itself. And it creates a new suck on the grid. Now, most Evie, charge card makers, for example, know that after 11pm at night is when the rates are going to be the lowest. Right? Now, if you heard about something called the duck curve, the duck curve talks about how if you look at the outline, it shows about how energy demands rise as people wake up around six o'clock in the morning and lights turn on. And coffeemakers and microwaves turned on fridge doors are open and closed, then it drops about 910 o'clock at night, in the morning by when people have left their homes and gone to work. And then in the evening, when people come back around four to 5pm. And as they turn on the microwave, cooking appliances and lights go on and all of that, that's when there's a sudden ramp of power. And that's called the duck duck curves neck of the duck. And between four to 9pm is when the grid load on the grid is highest. There's also unfortunately the time when the sun solar panels are beginning to produce less. And wind energy is beginning to die down. Yeah, right. So the demand is rising like crazy. Whereas the supply is constrained. So that neck of the duck as the consumption rises is often when the utilities are forced to charge you a higher price. And that makes perfect sense from their perspective. But imagine if in the middle of the day, when the solar panels on your home were shining and not give was not being used. You could have stored that in a battery. Yeah. And just out of two out of those four hours in the evening, between four to nine, if you could have used those batteries for some of your critical appliances. it eases a grid a lot.</p>

<p>That's a natural conclusion. If that is the case, that duck neck reality you're absolutely spot on about solar production going down as when the sun is at a really lower angle. And then of course when it just sort of lets up. But right. But that is a battery storage solution.</p>

<p>Correct. And, and battery storage now have wheels on them. Your cars are essentially energy storage devices, but they're mobile. So it's a little miniature power plant that's can go to various parts in the city at various times. It can be charged at various rates, often free. Have you seen those carports and schools and other places that colleges take this picture. So if that's a Battery, Battery on wheels,</p>
<p>23:30</p>
<p>I come home, I'm at four o'clock, I plug my my handy dandy car in it starts discharging. And I've already plugged it or I've already charged it up with well free solar at work. That's right, you're at work, right and I'm using it, that's an efficient way of extracting that energy.</p>

<p>Exactly. Because if you put energy, you'd increasingly see that canopies over over parking lots increasingly have electric chargers right below it. And no time limits on them either, because you can park there as long as you like. And those panels over there producing enough energy to charge a quarter literally for free. I mean, the owners of the parking lot may not decide to give it to you for free, they may charge you some nominal rate but it doesn't really cost you much to charge the car. So if in the middle of the day you park under a carport which has solar panels on it, you can charge your car for free. So by the time you get home, you don't have a discharged car, your semi or a fully charged car. Yeah. Now you've parked the car in the house and you plug it into your charger, and instead of you charging the car, it doesn't need to it actually discharges the car to ease that duck neck problem for just a couple of hours. Yeah, and then after 11 o'clock at night when the demand has died down. You can charge your car at that point.</p>

<p>Yeah. And and see what you're talking about. That's the innovation that is available out there. That is when we start talking about the the the digital component and the analytics are necessary. But it's also you've got the, the the technology to do that it's Yeah,</p>

<p>that does it. It does. And you know, if you think about it, what do you really need for something like this to happen, you need the automation, you need to you need people to remember to login and not pet or not have to worry about, hey, if I put my car in, I don't want it to start charging. Now, I want to, I want to program it to start charging after midnight, or after 11pm. And the rates are the lowest too. But all of this requires real time information coming from millions of EBS and carports. And charging stations and smart meters. And you imagine this is all data management.</p>
<p>25:39</p>
<p>Yeah, I don't know how you know, you bring up a good point. This is just one example, at one home with one power profile. Now multiply that by a million plus. Right, right, then you've got you've got a utility that built off of a very simple structure having to deal with a dynamic, complex. environment is, hey, kudos to those folks. Kudos, because the lights still go on. With all that happening today.</p>

<p>I think our utilities in the entire country are doing a really good job. They are essentially dealing with a tough problem. We don't really have power shortages or outages in our country. We have a lot of talk about how our grid is old, and how its dilapidated and under budgeted. Yes, okay. Many of those criticisms are valid. But if you think about it, how many times have you lost power? In my 30 years of living in Silicon Valley, I must have lost power for a total of about less than 10 times. And only one of those lasted 24 hours. And because because of the proactive shutdown because of the wildfire, danger caused by high winds that made that 24 hour outage happen otherwise, in spite of the grid being his age of 60 years of old, I haven't really had any brownouts or blackouts. So the grid actually managed really well.</p>

<p>You're spot on, I telling you, I agree with you, 100%. And when you paint that picture of how there's this brave new world, this future that's happening, it's happening today, but it's going to continue to evolve, continue to push that envelope and continue to change our lives. It's still we still take it for granted. A story a side note, when I was with a utility, an old lineman came to me and said, Scott, we used to have little interruptions, right? Little, little pops nothing big. And the majority of the people didn't know, they just didn't know, the real problem came when everybody had digital clocks. And then they would just interrupt and then all of a sudden, start blinking. That is how I wanted to go. And we had a power outage. We I didn't fail it. But we had a power outage, and then the background start ringing off the hook. And then that's what became a real problem.</p>
<p>28:03</p>
<p>That's right, that's right. Same thing today, two of my microwave starts blinking 12 like the old VCR from 1984. And that's how I know we had a power outage. I never felt it.</p>
<p>28:13</p>
<p>Oh, no, not at all. And again, that's a testament to the the innovation that is taking place today within utilities and companies like Hitachi Ventura, I mean, it just is because without that, without companies like Hitachi Ventura and others. These problems, the benefits of what we're trying to accomplish from an energy production perspective, can only be realized and achieved through the innovation and capabilities of companies like Hitachi Ventura, and you and others literally.</p>
<p>28:47</p>
<p>Yeah, you know, it takes it takes a few decades of having built the equipment ourselves, like the Transformers in a substation, circuit breakers and high voltage equipment and everything else. And then learning from how they behave over time, we've been equipping our own buildings for materials with IoT sensors and collecting data from how hard to get how much they vibrate, what is the oil analysis inside the transformer look like? And we've been doing that for such a long time that we have built this AI models, artificial intelligence models around it, to learn how to detect an upcoming anomaly or a failure. See, we can now take that knowledge and we can export that and we can help other people understand what that is. That's exactly what we do. It's all science. It's science, about the hardware that we then merge into software intelligence and make it available anywhere anytime in the cloud.</p>
<p>29:45</p>
<p>So that's a powerful statement because what what you're talking about is that history having that historical data, having that historical data wrapped around whether Whatever it might be trends demands growth, whatever the the impact of that that electron taking place, and you have that, and then you apply it using that data analytic science applied to an AI, put it in a software, you've already, in essence, you've already just gotten to the point where you only can gain from that, right? Yes, you just become smarter, you just become better.</p>
<p>30:27</p>
<p>Yeah, absolutely. So we have to be think about the flow of electrons, which is not bi directional, as we just discussed, as every bit representing every electron representing a bit of data. There is information in every electron trace. So whether the electron is moving into your house or out, you just learned something. That movement of the electron that is now going in two directions, is the bi-directional data. that knowledge is important. It's not just important for me to reduce my bills, it's important for the grid, it's important for the utilities, it's important for the people who generate our power. It's important for them then to know where to put the next power plant and what should it consist of? And what should the next price be for the energy. All of that matters, data matters.</p>
<p>31:14</p>
<p>Data matters, man, this is I want to make sure listeners, this is important stuff. This is fascinating stuff. You might not think so you might not be in the world of energy utility. You might be manufacturing, it impacts you. It impacts you in a way that you might not see today, but it will be tomorrow. And thank goodness for company. Let me ask you this. Two questions. One. What are the roadblocks? What are the challenges? And then where do you see it going? We've already painted we've, we've done the past, we've done the present. Let's talk about the future and roadblocks.</p>
<p>31:54</p>
<p>Right? So roadblocks. It's difficult for if I were energy utility to figure out where I can spend my precious dollars for infrastructure updates. They need a good amount of foresight into where to update the next transformer because they do not know what's going to fail a lot of the transformers and circuit breakers and everything that has been installed had been installed 40 years ago, 50 years ago, or last distances, and often in very rural areas where it's not easy to always send people it's working fine, but they do not have the insight into whether that equipment is working great, or whether it's time to replace it going out.</p>
<p>32:41</p>
<p>Don't you have the the ability from let's say dissolved gases, let's say you take that generation, the transformer analogy, aren't we gaining greater insights into what is a breakdown in the core of transformers and be able to, to a certain extent, have some sort of predictive curve to say, we're looking here and it is, you know, spinning off whatever dissolved gases, whatever, don't we have a better insights into our assets,</p>
<p>33:10</p>
<p>we do. But I think we only have them on a fraction of the Transformers that are out there, because the older ones do not have the connectivity built into them. So you got to go and update all of them, either by changing the transformer to a newer one, which has got this connectivity built into it. Or you got to attach external sensors and module that can capture that information and transmitted by our cell tower, because they're often in a location where there is no Wi Fi available. That adds expense. And when you talk about 10s of 1000s of transformers, under just one utilities purview. If you combine that with a 300 utilities we have in our country, that becomes a real problem. So very good at getting that it's a modernization of the equipment that needs to happen. So one of the first roadblocks is you need to there has to be a way to quickly get our existing hardware and infrastructure, power equipment to transmit the information to us. And there is no short answer to that. You can either go out and retrofit all of these or better yet, you wait for them to start failing or dying. And when you know that they are through observation that you can do remotely using a drone, for example, you can then go and decide that we need to update this guy, not the other one. That's same age, but it's not being used as much or without going through as many stress cycles because of better weather conditions or whatever. And you don't need to update the other one. But having that insight into knowing which transformer or which switch gear I may need to update in the next few years is key. And the way they were doing that also is fascinating. They fly drones equipped with heat sensing cameras or LIDAR on it where you can fly them and you can capture the images from them as images. Guess what you need an AI algorithm to understand those images because if you have a bunch of interns looking at the photographs trying to figure out if this is a good transformer or a bad bushing you know we're gonna get there never Are you local utility analyze 1.2 million images last You're alone in Northern California alone.</p>

<p>Okay, so So where do I spend my money? You paint an interesting picture. It is that how do I modernize my, my infrastructure the right way to deploy the right capital at the right time? Now where's where's this future going? What do you see? How come? Why should I not be bullish? or Why should I be bullish on this particular future,</p>
<p>35:29</p>
<p>you shouldn't be bullish, because what's going to happen is, you're going to have homes and clusters of homes, act like their own power companies for a few hours a day. So if I have an Eevee, and my neighbor has an Eevee, and the one next to him has an Eevee. And I've got five electric vehicles in this road, or battery based power wall type of products on my walls, which are energy storage devices, I can theoretically aggregate all of them. And now I have my block of homes as a mini virtual power plant. Yeah, so if I take all my cards that are charged, all of them come home, and all of them have a combined capacity, that's now enough to block to power my block for just two hours, my grip doesn't have to bother about providing the power on a hot day, for two hours, that's a huge relief to them, there has to be some monetization around it. So you got to figure out a way to compensate. The car owners who are allowing their cars to discharge into the house and give literally allow my neighbor to borrow energy from my car today. Right. So there has to be a peer-to-peer way of compensating people, the utility has to get in on the car maker has to get in on it. And it's already happening. Because the car maker is willing to share that information or allow the inverters to be updated. So that energy doesn't just go into the car as it is today. So the inverters have to be bi directional. So the cars have to change a little bit, oftentimes just a software change in the car. It's not a big technical problem. But the way that affects the battery, charge and discharge cycles and the life of the battery, the warranty considerations, all of that sounds like it's a tough problem. But it's not people are already solving it. People like us are already helping merge that auto cloud with the grid cloud and let people consumers have the choice of opting in for that service. Working with their utility, and others.</p>

<p>So while future I'm just as an old utility guy having this conversation, and and listening to what you say, I mean, as a homeowner, to have a have the thought and say, Yeah, but my neighborhoods just part of this cluster. And we're just dandy. And and, and we've, we've contractually put it all together, and now we're tight spinning and moving and doing this. And now look at that man, it's constantly whatever, that is amazing. Reality, and it's going to happen, because I happen like you and others. Because thinking about innovative ways of making power making. I mean, we just take it for granted. We just do. It's just something that that we just do. Now, how do people get ahold of you?</p>

I appreciate you taking the time out today to talk man. It's cool. It's cool. All right. For the listeners out there. Give us a little you know, background Luke 411 on who Mathew is. Yeah, sure I I've been in and around the energy space, or what I would call the new energy space for the last 15 years and they see new energy, they typically mean things like solar storage, things like that. And really building and investing in new companies. Today I lead strategy and business development for c power and really all that business mumbo jumbo In short, I'm helping find new ways to leverage our expertise and capabilities to grow and help evolve the grid we live in.</p>

<p>See, power is just a name. We were built up over time through a bunch of mergers and acquisitions. Some of them started with a C. So I assumed this is all before my time here. But I assume that's where the C monitor came from. But, uh, but I still think it rings. Well, it does. It does. Now let me ask you this. Let's talk a little bit about distributed energy. Now. I've had a number of conversations with other utilities and other energy professionals. And one of the real challenges, of course, is how do you manage? How do you create that, that nimble that resilient that</p>

<p>to incentivize generation that is renewable on to a grid into a community and maintain that stability of that system? So with that, distributed energy, give us a little definition of that? Yeah, well, distributed energy is well, maybe going backwards. And second day, we traditional energy is generally done in a centralized form, or it's in big power plants that are typically far away from the demand. And then they're transported through big transmission lines into distribution lines into your home in your business.</p>

<p>Distributed energies where you move these generation, or other DVRs distributed energy resources into that distribution grid, often what we would call behind the meter or into your home or business and that's where things like rooftop solar or storage come in mind. And, and it is a challenge what you mentioned, I think there's a lot of challenging kind of orchestrating all these little devices to kind of played the symphony, if we could stick with that musical analogy for a while but, but it's a challenge that CPower and others try to help help keep up with, you know, in the end, there's one thing that has to happen in supply has to match demand on the grid, or the lights go out and no one's very happy. Yeah, don't don't do that. You know, everybody's in for renewables. And it's in rightly so it's all good. And, and whatever that portfolio mix looks like. But if, if my power it starts to flicker, and then I go to my digital clock on my microwave, and it's blinking at me,</p>

<p>So let's talk a little bit about where this is going. Why is this important? Where are we? I mean, it just seems like</p>
<p>09:43</p>
<p>seems like there's a lot of traction that has happened. A lot of things that are taking place.</p>
<p>09:49</p>
<p>Why is this important?</p>
<p>09:52</p>
<p>Yeah, I think there's there's a ton of reasons why it's important. One and maybe at the top. Both businesses and homes are adopt</p>
<p>10:00</p>
<p>During these DVRs distributed energy resources on their own, for all sorts of reasons, some because they want to be greener or cleaner, some because they want more backup, some because it offers better economic incentives for them</p>
<p>10:14</p>
<p>in terms of Bill savings, or what we do with CPower to help balance the grid with this, but, but they're already using them, if you have these things being deployed in mass already, why not use them to help balance the grid instead of going out and deploying, say, another Central Station power plant, that might be a lot dirtier, but but even</p>
<p>10:38</p>
<p>maybe more important, it only operates for a few hours a year when the demand is highest. So the idea is to leverage these assets to kind of well have the terminal become very familiar with over the last year, flatten the curve and flatten that demand curve in this case, and alleviate that generation. Let me ask you this, that the challenge I see is that you brought up this sort of centralized generation, long ago, it was relatively easy to match supply demand, because you had these centralized assets, big centralized generation assets, the design was to be able to ensure the customer, the end user, the manufacturer, the customers at one end, receive consistent, reliable power. Now, with a distributed energy model, you take that centralized, and they play a less and less role, but you're trying to create a baseload type of scenario for all of these disconnected or</p>
<p>11:42</p>
<p>these smaller generations. How do you do that?</p>
<p>11:46</p>
<p>Yeah, well, I think that's a great point. Many, many of these DDR zz that are out there are not meant to be baseload. There are some that are like a CHP type of plant. But for the most part, they're meant to, from a grid perspective, they're meant to alleviate the peak.</p>
<p>12:04</p>
<p>So things like storage, energy storage in your home or in your business, they're not for the grid, they'll never be a baseload acid, what they could do is when you have your hottest day of the summer, and everyone's using your AC and the grid at peak demand, instead of building the next new generator, he just didn't start discharging your batteries, these batteries in your home, which looks like to the grid, less demand. You know, an analogy</p>

<p>I kind of use sometimes is July 4, right by me, July 4 has a lot of traffic. If you said let's get rid of all July for traffic, we had to do that, which is the case with the grid, it has to state ballots. We said let's get rid of all this traffic on July 4, there's a couple of ways you could go about this, you could build a bigger highway, right? Very Kintu transmission generation, you could go let's say I'm going to take this three lane highway and make it a 15 lane highway, and you're never going to have any traffic on July 4, the problem is you're going to eat into all this land, it's going to be a little dirtier. Most of all, it's going to be empty for most of the year. So what we kind of do at sea power is and what you could do with distributed energies is kind of akin to that in the sense that you see, let's not build a 50 lane highway, that doesn't make a lot of sense. Let's pay people to leave a little earlier on July 4, maybe leave a little later or maybe not leave at all.</p>

<p>But that way, you don't need that big highway yet you still get rid of the traffic. Hopefully that made a little sense.</p>

<p>All on it. Absolutely. There's there's a way of being able to manage</p>
<p>13:42</p>
<p>and correct me if I'm wrong, Mathew, that demand side, there's there's things that can be done on the demand side of that, that equation, like there, there's probably assets or buildings or whatever it might be out there that can be controlled and managed in a way that benefits benefits the demand of that profile. Is there a way of being able to take sort of that</p>
<p>14:09</p>
<p>these these distributed energy blocks and aggregate them in such a way to create maybe a larger aggregation? Is there some way to be able to do that? Yeah, so the absolutely first you're definitely right. It's not just batteries here we're talking about buildings could be batteries in themselves, they take the fact you could cool them off earlier and kind of akin to leaving earlier in my traffic example. But um, but yes, I mean, what CPower really specializes is I would say aggregate and go one step further and optimize those assets. We stand between CNI customers, like large, big box players, heavy industry,</p>
<p>14:52</p>
<p>universities, hospitals, and pretty much all types of large CNI customers when I say CNI, I mean commercial and industrial. Yeah.</p>

<p>In the grid, and what we the products that we offer to the grid is really aggregations of this. So it no longer looks like a small, little one stop shop for for the the grid and now looks big. In fact, you know, across the country, we have about 4.2 gigawatts under management, which is the size of several very large power plants. So 4.2 gigs?</p>

<p>It is</p>
<p>15:30</p>
<p>it's bigger than a meg megawatt. Yes, it's considerably bigger than a megawatt. But yeah, absolutely. And so now you now you're able to take that</p>
<p>15:40</p>
<p>and aggregate it. And from the perspective of, let's say, managing the grid, you can control that in such a way that and like I said, I'm just sort of spitballing here,</p>
<p>15:53</p>
<p>you can control it in such a way that will benefit that grid in a positive way to match supply and demand some, and because it's distributed, maybe some part of that capacity doesn't need to be activated and southern, you have that capability of doing that. Yeah, that that's exactly what we do. And it's it's often what we would call capacity, or power, which is measured in megawatts, it also goes into things like ancillary services, like the frequency, when you have plugged in, everything's at 60 hertz, or your computer doesn't work, right. Sometimes these can be used to do things like that, as well. So it supports that too, as well, because it's</p>

<p>what was this, somebody was saying something about</p>
<p>16:38</p>
<p>the, the generation of the past, would ensure the quality of the cycles and the voltage and everything that you want. But the demand today is so important, because we're dealing with such, our technology is sensitive, that doesn't do well, when it's like 59 and a half doesn't like that, because everything is designed. So you. So you're able to do that, be able to aggregate that and be able to</p>
<p>17:08</p>
<p>relatively easy.</p>
<p>17:10</p>
<p>I don't know if it's easy. And you know, it's something to keep in mind that you have to do this with not interrupting our customers core business. So if you have something like a battery, or micro grid, that's easy, because it's a device that just dispatches and the only thing you'd see is a green light versus a red light, so to speak. But other customers could drop load on only the hottest, hottest day, they'll, you know, maybe move their temperature up or prequal. Their their store.</p>
<p>17:39</p>
<p>And those customers aren't going to be working for a frequency program that happens many more times a day. But so I think, you know, it's first you have to really understand what each facility's kind of potential is. Sometimes you call it the wattage potential.</p>
<p>17:57</p>
<p>And, but then you have to figure out the, you know, the right software to kind of orchestrate that back to the grid. And then you still have to win these grid programs. Some are open programs where you can bid like an auction. Some are highly negotiated bilateral types of deals, man, that's a dynamic system. That's dynamic. That's a lot of decisions going on. Do you guys work closely with the utilities? Yeah, we have a business that really focuses on winning those utility deals, and even utilities themselves. Some are more open programs where you can bid in, and others are, we like to say are close, but you have to bid to win that program.</p>

<p>Like an RFP type of supplier, yeah, we, we work very closely with them. And what we find they often value is the insight we have into our customers and what they could do that that's where, because you can imagine if we're in Region, let's say on the Northeast, and then we have a similar set of customers on the, the Northwest, we understand how much load and how dependable and how accurate because from a utilities perspective, dependability is everything you might get there, sometimes that doesn't count for them, you got to get there all the times because it will go back to the first thing you're not happy if you walk into your oven light flickering.</p>

<p>And that's a lot of pressure on you guys, because because utilities, they've been around for a long time. They use a lot of that, that technology, the way they operate, their system has been around for a long time since the beginning of power. And they've they've just the system has evolved into what it is today. However, they can always go back to Okay, now this is not working, our customers being impacted. We're going to pull back and we're going to do whatever is necessary. So pressure on you guys. It's definitely some pressure. We got to get it right you know you're in the energy business you there's not a lot of room to get it wrong and there's there's there's big problems. If you do</p>
<p>20:00</p>
<p>But it's also a growing problem for utilities and grid operators alike in the sense that we talked a little bit about renewables earlier. And we have these low cost renewables that are clean and generally great getting deployed in mass right now. But you know, if there's a downside of this, that they're different than the traditional generation, they're intermittent. In other words, when the sun goes behind the cloud, solar panels produce less than electricity. So now you have this growing need of where they used to have this, what we would call firm production, now you have this intermittent production. And we could go back to that kind of highway example, we could build this redundant generation system to pick up or we could have demand react a little bit more to supply, which, which, obviously, we're big fans of here.</p>

<p>That's a, that's a digitization that's an innovative solution to that, because you're talking old school thinking, and I remember going to the system operator, or whatever they call it at that time, many years ago, where the guy would just sit there, it's still very manual, I see my demand going up, I could sit there and turn my generation, I can meet it. And then if there's a huge peak, then I just turn on a turban, a, you know, g turban and start popping and getting that demand or the getting that supply up to meet the demand. But here, I mean, it's it's, it's a lot of little things. That's, that's a dynamic system. And and I don't know, and correct me if I'm wrong, Mathew,</p>

<p>it has to be done through technology. I don't think the human the human side could manage it that way.</p>
<p>21:39</p>
<p>Yeah, it depends on how big and small your pixels are. Like when when our industry started, it was about summer peaks and eliminate summer and you'd have some very big loads. And it used to be done with phone calls, hey, call up XYZ company, tell them to drop their load and go through to the curtailment plant. And we still do a bit of that. But but for the most part, it's gravitating all the way to much more automated to the case where a fair amount of our portfolios now will machine to machine people don't get involved. But you're spot on Scott.</p>

<p>What are the what are the roadblocks? I mean, it's going to happen, let's put it is happening now. It's going to be more and more. There's a lot of other dynamic challenges existing within the utility space beyond what you guys are doing, but it's all very dynamic. What what are the roadblocks, what are we talking about here? Yeah, it's a fair point. And maybe I should preface everything saying is I don't ever envision us moving to a fully distributed system that there will be central station generation and there will always be a need for that. But Roblox for us is part regulatory. We have regulators for utilities, and yes, those so called DSO or ISOs, ISOs. Yeah, ISO independent system operators. Yep. They, they're there. Their job isn't to experiment with new technologies, right, which To be frank, they're Their job is to ensure reliability the grid and ensure that the right economics and the fair economics so that they're not really incentivized to push new rules out in front of the technology. So I kind of sometimes liken that to a capacitor, you have everything getting shoved in there built up, then it just unload. So we just had one unloading fork, which is a the</p>
<p>23:28</p>
<p>federal regulator transmission. Yeah, exactly. But they came out with only going for 2222. But it basically says that, so ISOs, and artios need to</p>
<p>23:41</p>
<p>need to reward or compensate distributed energy devices in the same way that the central jet is.</p>

<p>See, I'm going to push back a little bit, here's the deal. I'm an ISO, or I RT or whatever, my I get paid, or I'll get penalized. I'm okay, over here. If I deliver my power in the right way. If I don't, I get penalized. So I'm not. And yet yet there seems to be a disconnect between the incentives to try to incentivize businesses to more to that distributive, renewable, whatever might be over here. And yet, these over here are saying, nah, ha, no, I tried that one time I got penalized and everybody hates me because of that, and customers are coming at you. So there's a real disconnect that happens there. I think that's a fair point and you know it which he need to get it right to start with like, you can't be this is forget about your oven in my life. This is people's hospital, their oxygen, other things that are alive that you know, there's these things need to work and there's critical, critical loads out there that have to work no matter what more than five nine accuracy. But you know, it has been proven</p>

<p>to work overtime and but this is kind of the this is this kind of the issue. You know, we were talking about challenges when do when is it the right time for that capacitor to load? And how far did these technologies have to develop? And how far can you develop them without kind of mass deploying them and you know, I think where the rubber kind of meets the road here is another kind of important thing to consider is economics. And you know, people can pay up to kazoo for their electricity either is probably the, one of the quicker ways to create unhappiness is to</p>

<p>have basic necessities are increased the cost of basic necessities, which I think electricity is so I think it's here. And you know, the funny thing is, is all this one of the big reasons that you see DRS being deployed, we talked about it just really briefly, is resiliency. We've seen our grids fail us over the last year, California, Texas, and you would, what does that do that drives more people to go out and get types of backups, batteries? backup, Jen, just Oh, yeah, Jen said, micro grids. And that's</p>

<p>as those are deployed, you're just increasing the opportunity to be able to use those for for other reasons at a low cost, because now you're not trying to incentivize their deployment, you're purely tap into something that's already there. Okay, so let's put your future hat on real quick. Where do you see it going? What, what do you think is going to happen in the future? Yeah, that's, um, well, kenaz, let's quickly refresher where we came from. It was really a supply driven network is what we've been talking about. In other words, if I flip my light switch on here in New York, somewhere, regeneration clicking on to supply the electron. So oversimplified example, granted, but it is still a real, it's a real time commodity, both both open. And that that's where we come in from. And now we're going to as you're seeing these distributed assets being called on to supply things more and more, and that's been growing it and that's bringing us to what I would call a two way or bi directional grid.</p>

<p>And we're seeing that happening more and more. And I think that's kind of where the beginning stages of that right now. And as we do this, we, companies like us are investing in what we call optimization technologies to improve this greater and greater, but we're also getting more and more data, and you're also getting more and more decentralized devices out there. So where does this all wind up? I don't know. But sometimes I like to think it will be like the Internet, and gravitate to what I would call an omni directional network. So in the internet, we all consume information, we read emails, webpages, we all produce information. So more emails, for sure, send me an email, you should see more, you should see some of the emails I get, I wonder how people consume or produce such large information. But and then they also store information, whether in the cloud or locally, right? And then if I send it, if I send it, if I sent you an email, today's got it in my route through Kansas, and tomorrow, it might route through Milwaukee. But the network's always, always adjusting. So as we have more and more of these nodes and these distributed devices out there, and better and better logic, does our electric grid eventually become omni directional like that? And it's interesting. Yeah. So far away? Well, no, you're the SVP of strategy and business development. That means you, you have this conversation quite a bit. Yeah, that's cool. Get paid to dream sometimes. And that's the best part of my job. But I'm telling you right now, it is it's important. You know, you're constantly educating, you're constantly collaborating and innovating. That's, that's what makes this time really interesting. From my perspective. I don't know what switch clicked. But all of a sudden, everything is possible. Everybody's saying, why not? Well, I'm gonna do it. And then the technology is sort of there to be able to do it. And it's just an interesting time. And I wish I was younger, because I think that</p>

<p>I don't know the future's bright. From that perspective. I think so too. And in, you know, in fairness, the grid hasn't changed much since salmon soul and gave 100. And something years ago, God founded it. So we're, we're overdue for somebody innovation here. We've changed how we do everything else there. But it's a super exciting time. And mostly because I think we can make a difference with what we do make make people's lives better.</p>

<p>ASCII, and you will, it'll happen or it stops cold in a sense. It doesn't continue to move forward. It doesn't. If you don't have the right things in place to make it and to facilitate this new innovation, then, yeah, it's it's tough to keep on you know, doing that. But I think you guys are there and you understand what the drivers are. And as a consumer, I just want flip on my lights. It's on doesn't fluctuate. I'm happy.</p>

<p>As a clam, that's the simple reality that I'm I live under. That's right. You know, one of my mentors once told me a good analogy are those with solar but he's,</p>

<p>he said, Mathew, people don't go solar to save money. And he said, you know, they'll, they'll go solar to be green, they'll go to be tech forward or go to,</p>

<p>they'll go for many other reasons for some resilient power on their house. However, you need to save the money. Because if you don't save the money, they'll be embarrassed when they tell their friends. And that's, that's so wisely. Not sooner. No, that's true. And but none of these solutions work if they're not economic. Yeah, you're you're spot on. Alright, how do people get ahold of you? I don't know, man, do you get chills up and down your spine? I do. And if I had hair I share my hair with tingle in my head would tingle but I don't and so it doesn't. But anyway, wife run wireless charging systems. And in the video, if you look out at the video, you'll see just these, like these little plates, he's holding it. And these plates are just powerful solutions for your E, your, your E fleet, your your, and it just starts there, man, you start pulling on that thread of the solutions that can be provided. Give us a little background of where you come from why you're such an incredible professional, then we're going to go into this particular topic that I think I'm pretty, pretty excited about.</p>

<p>Yeah, awesome. Let's do so my name is Julian, and that's keep it away. I'm working at a company in Germany, where we coming from, it's called Wiferion. But Wiferion is also fine. And what we're doing is what we do is actually we do call inductive charging pads for making energy transfer over the air without any contacts and not thinking about your your electrical toothbrush, or your your smartphone. We talking about big industrial robots, agvs cars that move themselves that are driven by batteries. And we would like with the solution we would like to discuss today. We want to make it easier to get energy and power into your batteries without any contact</p>

<p>with Julian that that has that been done before in the past?</p>

<p>I mean, the honestly, the technology was developed by Nikola Tesla, maybe some people know from the computer game, I think common and conquer where you have those Tesla power stuff. Yeah. So basically, it's 160 something years old, right. But let's say to have pushed into such a small footprint with that high efficiency. It was not done in the last couple of years in depth, high efficiency and power when we do so. But everybody knows. Maybe we get a very little hint that the smartphone stuff used nowadays. Yeah,</p>

<p>almost no one is plugging anymore. Everything comes you put it on a little desk, you put it into your car, and there's a little mat in there, which says inductive charging. I'm charging your phone now. And basically that's what we do, but with much more power for other vehicles.</p>

<p>Yeah, this inductive, by the way, apparently, I'm one that does not use inductive charging for my cell phone. I still plug it in, I still run around trying to find that plug.</p>

<p>But one question. Are you brushing your teeth with an electrical toothbrush?</p>

<p>Yeah, but it's it's driven by a battery.</p>

<p>Try Julian, I'm trying to leverage the inductive technology. But the funny thing about that cell phone. And I'm sure some of the listeners out there can can embrace this, when that little plug gets bad. And you try to just sort of extend the life of it. And then you sit there and you'd sort of stay. I'm looking forward to the inductive solution.</p>

<p>Wow. And that's actually it's the same issue. If you're running a forklift or something that needs to be plucked after the shift. Just imagine you are the work of the next shift. And the stupid guy from before it didn't pluck the correctly come down with shit. My equipment is not ready. So I got to go to the manager and say, I'm sorry, can't work. The equipment isn't ready. So that's basically some of the things we're going to talk today. And that's what how we want to solve issues about plugging in cables, or, yeah, things like that. So.</p>

<p>So we're talking about inductive in general, macro, high level inductive charging. And we're talking about the technology to be able to do that in an industrial setting. forklifts, other other large equipment within a manufacturing floor, let's just sort of lay that out, and, and keeping the assets charged in a way that they're productive. And so the overall, what was the overall thinking behind the company and why this is so important.</p>

<p>Yeah. So we looked at what happens in the industry and actually the industry is removed from its revolutionizing. It's basically everything is moving now it's going to be flexible. There's robots and ATVs and industrial trucks moving from gasoline into electric. So we saw there's a huge benefit, because at the moment the standard technologies that are charging those electric vehicles, they are either on a cable, which is quite strange if you think about an autonomous truck or an autonomous VIERA this completely alone and can drive me crazy, amazing, intelligent, smart things. But then in the evening needs to drive somewhere where a guy goes and plugs a cable. I mean, that's, that's not what we really think it's a complete solution. So we thought about what can we do with the technology available? And we found four very smart guys were actually researching on a PhD level, how can we make those kinds of inductive charger very efficient. And in the end, we basically came up with a little plate that is just 10 by 10 inches. Just keep holding that up.</p>

<p>If you're looking at on the video, this is this is it looks cool, right? Got a great smile, but it looks cool. So don't get distracted by the smile. And that's all it is.</p>

<p>That's basically what what do you put on in the in the ground or on the ground or on the wall of your manufacturing location. And then you have a similar plate on the vehicle. And basically, the only thing is having the two, the two plates not kissing each other, but getting very close to each other. And then immediately starting communicating and transferring energy without any additional help from from a guy or from software. So that's all full automatic. And the cool thing is there's no context in between. So there's no wear and tear, there's no cables to be plugged in, just the two plays need to get close to each other communication, hey, I'm a vehicle I need energy. And then we generate a magnetic field. And the magnetic field basically charges, vice versa, then the battery in the vehicle.</p>

<p>So I'm a human being. I make, hopefully, dumb decisions. It's not my fault. It's just my species. So I sit there and I say, that's pretty cool. I get it to content, you know, I can get real close. How do you? How does your company prevent me from getting too close? Or too far away? And I, I optimize that distance so that I'm optimizing the charging, and I'm not banging into it, or I'm not that far away. How does that happen?</p>

<p>Yeah, I mean, there's it's quite simple. First of all, the guys who are driving forklifts, if it's a manual driven forklift, there's super good and driving forklifts, they can actually I think they can drive less than an inch if they want, because, you know, they were really amazing in the in the warehouse in the in the manufacturing supply chain. But honestly, the best case where this latest stuff is really amazing is at the autonomous driving. So if you have autonomous driving fleet AGV, that is actually the smart component in the process, that it has scanners and and never then navigation technology, which makes it easy. And we have quite a big, let's say chance of being not in a perfect distance. And that's our experience, no problem at all, it's even a much easier, because compared to other solutions where you have, for example, one of the competition solution, which is on the market is a contact charger, which is it's available since I think the 1980s or 75, or something. So it's it's good, it's traditional, it works. But you have to be exactly on place, you have to push, you have to hit perfect. And if you do, if you are a manual driver, sometimes an interest too much, or even the technology of of the scanning and the navigation software of the self driving ATVs they need to be very precise. In our case, there's like inches left the right enough space, we don't need to be 100% accurate, just close to it. And then we will the thing will do the thing.</p>

<p>Seeing that that's pretty good. So your your inductive solution allows for the human very ability and be able to achieve the objective that is necessary to charge that be keep that asset moving and doing what it needs to do to be productive. Now, it's an interesting stat that I have here. It is fleet availability of your industrial II vehicles v e by up to 30%. So your solution keeps that asset delivering its benefit up to 30%. Is that correct?</p>

<p>I mean, that's that's correct. Then of course, that's that's a marketing talk, but it's a real marketing talk because it's reality. So what what we do have that and that's the difference to other solutions in the past but you had mentioned you have your forklift, you have your forklift driver and he runs a full shift and after 678 hours the battery is empty which is fully fine. Yeah, those two t goes to a charging spot maybe drives whatever 500 meters, stops there gets the battery into the park says goodbye. And the forklift is basically staying there for four or five hours to be fully recharged again. What we do is we basically because that so easily to be implemented the grounds on the floor and on actually on locations where the fork driver is stopping anyway, and there's no petitioner let's say job to be Done with a cable in, let's imagine he has a five minute single break, or you need to go for the restaurant or he has a break for the cafeteria for 30 minutes. No one nowadays drives to forklift 500 meters to the charging location proccing, the charger cable for maybe 20 minutes of breaks? Yeah, go back to the cafeteria. And so what we basically want to do is we're going to implement the charging in the process where he anyway stops, if he stops for unloading the dock. And there's a certain stopping time because the truck is changing, then he has five minutes of standing time, or maybe only two. And as it's fully automatic, and there is no trick, chances are, there's no wear and tear and things like that. It's basically done automatic that the driver doesn't have to think about charging.</p>

<p>And you know, that's huge. Julian as the listeners, I want to make sure that that point is sort of crystallized. And it's just the charging, the function of charging of your assets is just a part of the process. And so if I go to station a, there could be a charging station there. And I just pull up, take care of whatever, it might take me a minute, but I've got a minute of charging that's taking place. And then I pull out and I go to station B same sort of deal. But it's embedded into the process. And so I don't have to make a conscious decision to go eat lunch, but drive the forklift or other asset over to this one charging station, stick it in, and then walk back over there. Brilliant. Scott,</p>

<p>you got and that's exactly what we'd like to do. And just imagine in the manufacturing area where you have no self driving agvs or in a house where you where you anyway have to go to load something which takes 30 seconds, maybe a minute. Or if you're in a production circle and your your production let's let's let's assume your yawn yawn yawn automaker. And nowadays the the body of the of the cars has not been like Ford and 100 years ago, put it on the beginning of the band. And then it walked through. Nowadays we go from station to station and the things are going on an ATV. So that means maybe there's like 50 stations they go through and there's automatic robots and manpower who was working on the on the car. And just imagine every time you drive two minutes to Next station, then you have a one minute working time when robots are going on and, and doing stuff on the car. That's the time where you easily change because it's just in the ground if you want or on the on the ground. Just don't think about</p>

<p>now I'm telling you. That's that's actually that's a cool solution. Great thinking over there. That is I love it. I love it. So the question that comes to mind? Yeah, yeah, good, good answer. Because the question that comes to mind is a couple of things. One, cool, I'm listening, I want to be able to do something like this. Can I do it in a small way? Big way? How do I begin the process of implementing?</p>

<p>Yeah, let's, let's be honest, it's it's basically, there's so many in 1000s of potentials to put it in. And we have to look, it should be also a good business case. And that means you basically started Look, I have a driving situation, I have electric a vehicle. And I'm running more than let's say two shifts, and I have constantly problems with power, power transfer their interior, broken, damaged cables. So what can I do, of course, we are targeting companies who make agvs, who make industrial trucks to make basically upgrade their their vehicle into a smarter vehicle, not only by sensors and systems, but also in the way of charging and energy supply. That's the one thing and of course, that's our first target two is to have a general improvement of the vehicles outside there. And that will bring the revenues for the end customer using those vehicles. On the other hand, if your industrial truck manufacturer, or for example, if you're using manufacturer trucks, we can basically swap your old lead acid battery and swap it into a new tray which has inductive charging with for example, lithium ion in there, which is a little bit better suited for let's say rapidly fast and quick and short charging circuits in terms of lifetime of the battery. And then make in retrofit, you're actually truck into a new very crazy state of the art inductive charging machine. So that's that's these are the two ways which we're trying to get into the market and where we think the product can have a huge benefit for the end customers. See,</p>

<p>here's here's the thinking it's like pretty cool. I can take old assets, battery asset, you know that that has to get plugged in, and I can retrofit it with your solution cool. And be able to create a charging station that sort of elevates And prolongs the value of that asset, because you just sort of updated it, I would imagine and correct me if I'm wrong. Now I'm able to collect real data on that asset as it moves around. And then I can be able to make tactical decisions on my manufacturing process, or where people are at, does it give me more data to look at to be able to be a better business?</p>

<p>Yes, Scott, good question is that we will do it, I think we do it. It sounds like it was not a predefined question. It was not actually,</p>

<p>that's also the new technology without only transferring the magnetic field and therefore putting energy from one side into the battery. We also have a communication connection, basically. And we do communicate all the data from the battery system from the vehicle into the stationary site, which is plugged on the ground, and then into a cloud. So Meaning, if you have a smart management fleet management system, you can hook up to the cloud and basically get not only the information you have anyway, but getting detailed information about a battery, the life cycle, what's the status, and things like that. And one more thing, I think is very important, because we talked about the system does not be belong to one kind of technology in terms of battery, we charge 24 volt, 48 volt batteries, lead acid, lithium, lithium, the tinium doesn't matter what kind of battery and only have the same charging spot. Meaning even if you have different kind of vehicles running on your fleet or on a warehouse, everybody can use the same. And that's where the real game changer comes into the game. Just imagine a big guy like Amazon or whatever the sides, okay, I don't care what kind of vehicles are driving, I just want one investment for the charging. And everyone should need a similar charging spot on the other side. But that's let's say it's visionary. Maybe Amazon list is listening. Please call me we can make a good deal.</p>

<p>All right, that's a shameless plug. But it's a good shameless plug. Because the technology's really cool. Okay. So what I see is one, this is an important if you're in whatever application or you're using these assets. And and and i think that it's important that you use these, you're going to have to come up with a, a strategy around that. And I think that this inductive solution is a cool future. You know, thinking into the strategy, it's important. It is a digital transformation journey, because you're going to be able to pull all that information, you're going to be able to make better decisions. I get it. Why do you have certain? What are the roadblocks? Why don't people just say, I get it? Let me push back on it.</p>

<p>Yeah, to be honest, em, as you ask, how long is that on the on the horizon, it's been there for many, many years in a different way. We call it next generation inductive charging, because everyone who has heard about it or use it or tried it out, they basically had a line charger, which is normally placed into the ground with a lot of infrastructure work. And yeah, I would say those system were available also since couple of years. The problem was, it's huge investment. And you cannot really drill into a leased warehouse where you have to know in 10 years, I have to return it to the owner. And I have to fix all the groundwork. So that was one of the topics where where we have limitations. So we come up, let's do it on a spot charger. Let's do that little 10 by 10 inch thing, if we can even put it just on the ground with some plastic mats, depending on the application. So you can easily move it away from one place to another if the warehouse design changes the layout. And the second thing is the second why why is the robot there, people need to understand it's not the old kind of inductive, the old kind of inductive charging was around 60% efficient, meaning if you have those those phone charges, which are like this size, they have a similar maybe 50% 60% efficient efficiency, which is okay for for five watt of charging of a phone. I don't care if I lose too much. But if you lose 1500 watts for 3000 watts, right. Huge, huge issue. So that was one of the biggest roadblocks and people need to understand there's something new in the market, which really works with 93% efficiency that's fully comparable to any other charging solution available on the market. See, and</p>

<p>I think that that's a great point. And because you're in the business and because this innovation just keeps on rolling forward, it only gets better. It's only just keeps on getting better and better and better because your focus your company and others are focused on delivering value delivering success. And that requires me to keep on innovating. And so you're already there. Throw away that dog on old tech uses New Tech.</p>

<p>Yeah, that's a cool thing. If you're a startup, which we been like five years now, and, you know, we can really concentrate on one thing, and we only riding that horse, and we have to ride it until it's dead, or we're going to make a unicorn out of it, you know, but let's, let's see, it looks like other companies are focusing on too many other things. If you have one really cool stuff, which we believe we have. And now as I said, in Europe, it's quite we're quite, let's say established with the category that we have most of the the systems in your running and we now entering us, that's also why we have to talk. We are at promo dx. So that's gonna be amazing. We really looking forward because that's gonna be a big game changer. I think also, yes. All right,</p>
