around once again, welcome to industrial talk. And thank you very much for your support. This is where we celebrate industry heroes all around the world, because you're a bold, you are a variety of dare greatly. You're making my life a better life, and you're making the world a better place. That's why this platform is all about your celebration. And we are as you can tell, there's a lot of buzzy buzz going in the background. That means we are on site at the Bab tech. It's FABTECH. It's it's not a conference. It's what is it? FABTECH. It's, it's an exhibit. That's it. It's Faberge egg exhibit. Atlanta, Georgia is the location and we are having a dandy time in a hot seat, Matteo Dario. And he's with Rex rock, a Bosch company. Let's get cracking. Resistance. Welding is on the docket. You're saying to yourself, Scott? Oh, resistance welding? Yeah, you do. It's exciting stuff. How you doing retail? How are you doing? Thank you. I'm doing well appreciate it. We had, if you haven't noticed, if you go out to the YouTube channel, industrial talk, you'll find there was a speed dating with Matteo and team, Rexroth on whatever their technology is. It's got some detail associated with it. So we're, we're all into it. And so I'm sorry, I'm adjusting as we go along. Because apparently, I think I'm hot. Looking at like all the little indicators. So anyway, having a good conference. Yes. Very good. Very good. Indeed. That's the first time for me. I'm enjoying the call. Yeah. You're in? You're in see.

02:06

I'm a Chicago Boys. So

02:07

yes, I live in Chicago. Yeah. And we are looking at

02:10

and see, yeah, you're in C. And there's a lot of big stuff going over there as well. So before we get into the tack, give the listeners a little background on who Matteo is what? How come you're such a great professional? Where do you come from? Oh,

02:27

so Matera is a person who likes manufacturing. And most importantly, he likes data. And so I'm trying to bridge this gap between the OT side of things. And that's been my issue for the last, I would say seven years.

02:43

I gotta tell you, from my perspective, if you're if you're a manufacturer, and you're not in the data game, you're missing out on opportunities. And you just are

02:54

I couldn't agree more, right? We see every show, there's more and more software more and more as a service product. companies that are selling software. And we're seeing this trend

03:06

everywhere. What I always fascinated, if I was a manufacturer, I wouldn't even know where to start. Like I got my I'm a manufacturer, and I know I need to go down this road and I need to start collecting more insights into data and all that stuff. I don't even know one where to go to who to who to trust. You know, there's a lot of people hanging their shingles out here saying, yeah, that we do it. So you're not the only one with

03:37

this. I mean, this is a serious problem, right? Everybody has it. They come to large companies like ours, and other companies to try to acknowledge and scale scale.

03:55

Do you think it's approachable? Do you think it's really for also, big companies? Bosch thumbs up? Got it, you're gonna be fine. But but from the small to mid sized companies? Is it still? Is it approachable from you know, Yeah, you too, can play in the digital game. You know, what's

04:15

the biggest problem for me is understanding the understanding where you are in your roadmap, waiting, what is the strategy, what do you want to be? Nice. And I see a lot of companies, small companies trying to

04:33

get into the stage where that's where I want to be. That's where we have collecting data. A lot of companies are putting a lot of sensors on the machine so that then what that's the problem is, there is no value brought into the business. So you need to be able to analyze the data, make sense, and have a clear strategy for your

04:59

party. prompt

05:05

CI, I'm always fascinated by the fact that you're absolutely right. Here's data. Apparently I can get a tsunami of data. It's It's the ability to be able to say, oh, that data's that's good data. That's noisy data, that data, don't even look at it. Don't waste your time with it. And that's always been a challenge, because you want sure you want to collect it, you want to look at the right data. And that requires some skills. I mean, it's not, don't ask me.

05:32

No, it does. That's absolutely in data in its raw form. It's just another voice into your into your expenses, right? holdings, they're saying they're somewhere in the database and doing nothing, actually, they aspire to believe it or not. So if you don't use it fresh, eventually will not mean anything to you. So you need to be able to use it immediately, as soon as possible change raw intelligence, I don't know if you have seen ever those pyramids of go from raw data into intelligence into wisdom and

06:08

Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

06:12

So that's what you need to do. First off, is connect to machines. Start collecting data, then you need to shift your mindset and understanding how can I drive my business using insights from that? And then eventually, you come into restricted information. And then you actually list them out? I don't think companies

06:35

I look at it this way, there's just been a lot of change. There's a lot of philosophy that exists out there. Just just an innovation, just people think of, hey, here's a new use case. This is another one. Hey, and it's just from my perspective, I challenge to keep up with right now, with that said, which is really interesting. So we're buzzing around this conference FABTECH. And what was interesting about this, was that we went on over to, of course, see that showcase. And then we ran it to Bosch, and we were talking about resistance welding, and which is interesting. Just Just think of a car and it's going through a thing, and it's zip, zip, zip, and you see the spark? And they're, they're welding, you know, resistance? Well, that's the picture. But the reality is, is that what you bring to the table? Is that data analytics into that spot? Well, that that I was dazzled by take the listeners through something like like, there's data in that little weld.

07:35

Well, first of all, let me step back a little bit. Spark comes out, that's

07:41

see the seat. But But, but I'm telling you right now on TV,

07:46

and that's what it is. That's Hollywood, that's TV. Because because they have to be flashy. And you have to show you that something's doing something with welding, right. But that flashlight, you see it's molten material being ejected from the location as well. So that is called expulsion, technical. So what we can do now with all of these other because we have been making machines that do

08:09

the well, you know, we're

08:10

talking about 20,000. unfair. So very high current, very fast machines to do over seven. Pretty producing a lot of data. And now we're stepping into a new domain where we say, Okay, what do we do with this thing? You know, what are the fundamental problems of the resistance welding industry? Right, fundamental problem with understanding what is the quality? So how is it done by now? Is it done through destructive testing,

08:38

or using non destructive technologies, for example. So, if you have to do this, you have to peel off your porch, and then you destroy the part, then you can measure the quality well, but you're not used for a lot of things, right, you're not being adapting to

08:58

whatever, yeah, you know, configuration might happen in your system. So you might have a bad batch of rice or tips or whatever you're doing wrong. So the only

09:10

way that you can do this, and you can

09:11

discover this is true. So we are helping our customers, we decrease further and exploring the potential of this data driven business. That's why we call it so collecting the data coming from machine, helping them making transforming the raw data into actionable information, and then deriving this quality metrics that are going to be very, very helpful for any application.

09:41

So again, you're you're honing in on that, that, well, you're getting data out of that, well, you are improving the quality of that weld, and you're seeing it. Where do you see it going? Does I mean isn't there a point where I'm uh, I got it. I see. challenge, is there even more room to improve that weld.

10:06

So you're asking me to look into the future of technology in the next five to 10 years? Yes, there is always I believe there's always going to be room for improvement at some degree at some level. So

10:19

sustainability, if I have to do some work,

10:23

for example, integrating robot data, CNC data from the cells into the welding controller, or maybe sharing all of these data available in one station, throughout the entire controller, right, so you have your PLC, rubber controller, welding controller, all of them sharing these things, and then will have a big impact on the quality. There can be also post processing technologies, for example, visual technologists that will be sanding, the location of the spark that was welded, and determine the quality using in

11:00

nonintrusive technology, so that we can attend to what's happening,

11:03

right. So that what we are right now is we are slowly introducing, in the world of you know, welding, and we are introducing a lot of it declines. And, for example, we're introducing cloud computing, using artificial intelligence, so many different things right now can make a big impact on the current setup,

11:24

in what I like about it is the fact that you're gonna catch, you're gonna get catch defects before they become really bad. They're gonna say, Hey, here's a defect, we're able to use the available innovation, that available technology to be able to do that again, and then significantly improve the quality of whatever it is.

11:48

ght, Man, this is really like:

12:33

It sounds great. You know, I mean, we can try to blow holes into the solution, but it it sounds like a good solution. What would be the pushback of companies? Like what what is it? Because it's gone.

12:52

Now there is a big push back. And that's the big old pushback that all the major OEMs manufacture. Put it? That's the number one question that we got every time. Somebody says, What about my knee? You know, what do you do with it? So this is this is this is the this is the issue, right? Companies need to do more with their data, but they are scared of using data and having their data somewhere that is not on premise that is not in their own. So Oh, shouldn't we get always? The first one is how to use? What do you do? You know, we use a public platform on the cloud, to store the day we operate it, we maintain it, we abide to very strict cybersecurity regulations for quashing posts and everything. That's not enough in some cases. So they still want to wait. The good news is, this is a trend, a macro trend in your industry, and eventually, small medium to one are gonna change their mindset into actually moving in the correct direction. And allowing other companies to make business.

14:07

Do you could you sort of in this might be a push back to a sort of a coloca, cross whatever. It's like, hey, here, here's a company down in North Carolina, and here's a company up in Boise, Idaho, and in the environment is different, whatever it might be, but you're able to say, take through that better position or view of where you're going with

14:34

that. Right. Right. Right. So without getting into any it.

14:40

I don't.

14:43

There can be hybrid clouds, hybrid clouds in the sense of manufacturing, in their own cloud infrastructure, and then we access on demand just to provide the right for example, we went with

15:00

Just think about conviction. Yeah. Which is pretty cool.

15:03

But like it's us correction, we need the data from the customer to produce things, right. So they can just give us what we need to calculate it, and then we'll move, right. So it's something that can happen from the cloud, there can be something that we should do. Again, my hope, and my, I guess I'm an optimist, in that sense, many to wants to change their mind. More and more, the fact that they're, consequently their data is going to be on the cloud, there's nothing

15:36

I mean, you can you can be, you can try to resist that, but come talk to me in five years, it's gonna be even more. And there are plenty of companies out there that are committed to protection of the data. And, you know, it just whether you like it or not, it's also figured out I'll give

15:56

you another pointer talks have become the computers on wheels, right. So and manufacturers are not at. So they need to rely on somebody that is an Xcode. Bigger for the more of the demo class with the head on the walls, and warn me, they will have to almost steps away, right to score. Analyze.

16:22

So there will be

16:23

more and more, it's gonna happen, whether you like it or not. And my my recommendation has always been, hey, you got to move forward, it is happening. You've got to find companies like Bosch and others to help you on this journey. Because if you're not, if you're not mining the data in a way that is tactical, in your business, you're missing out, you're missing out on gold, you know? So, anyway, all right. How do people get a hold of you their retail?

16:55

Yeah, they can come visit us in section where we are the number of our stamp, or they can just go on the website and

17:06

look up. Well, I'm gonna have all your contact information out on industrial talk show. If you're not you can reach Bataille. You guys got your fingers on the pulse of all of this? This is great stuff. Thank you. Thank you, man. I gotta tell you, I enjoyed every bit of the conversation just because it's, it's it's intriguing. Alright, once again, we're broadcasting from FABTECH, Atlanta, Georgia, it's full of people, commentators, there's a ton of people. It's exciting. It's got a lot of energy. All right, it does, man. All right, we're gonna broadcast or we're gonna wrap it up on the other side, and I'm going to have all the contact information for material. So do not go away. If you're not, we will be right back.

17:49

You're listening to the industrial talk, Podcast Network.

17:54

All right, once again, thank you very much for joining industrial talk. That was Matteo that was at FABTECH. That was last year. And I'm looking at a stack card. And what he has today, he was with Rex rod, which is a Bosch company. And he moved within Bosch to an organization called growth platform. And what's interesting about this, and this is where everybody's got going, whether we like it or not, whether you you embrace it or not. And we've got to figure out that solution. This is what it looks like. And I a PM, don't know what that stands for. But it does include digital twin, as well as artificial intelligence. And if I had a nickel every time with somebody talking about digital twin or artificial intelligence and applying that to manufacturing and all aspects of the manufacturing world, yeah, I'd be rich, because it has to happen. You need to be engaged. And the industrial talk is here to help deliver the education and help deliver the collaboration opportunities, because they're all out there. Just FYI, you need to get engaged. And, and again FABTECH, next, this year, FABTECH, Chicago, and it's going to be bigger and better. And everybody is there to solve problems, which is always just a fantastic opportunity. All right, this ecosystem, this industrial talk ecosystem needs you. And it needs you to just be engaged because we're trying to educate, collaborate, and of course, innovate, go out from industrial talk, all of the details, contact information, as well as all of the other professionals that have been on this platform. All out there, and they want to connect, be bold, be brave, dare greatly hang out with Matteo, and you will change the world. We're going to have another wonderful conversation as we work through the content from FABTECH shortly so stay tuned.
