I like the collaboration. It's not about the people that kind of get it is it is without a doubt. I mean, it's like the technologies technology. I got it, I got it. But you know what, what has changed drastically and we're going to talk about this. Three years ago, I was here COVID hits, I think COVID helped sort of speed up some decisions as a result related to, let's say, digital transformation for data, whatever you want to call it IoT. And, and we are here today, and the conversations have been revolving around how the technology is being used today. real use of the technology not, you know, theoretical or whatever. It's real stuff. So what we have is this, let's just let's just level set, John, give us a little background on who you are. And then we're going to talk about what you do.

So my role and methodologies is focused on two things. One is innovation. What is innovation do? What value basically innovation brings? What's the value? And how can we drive and understand our customers? How can we implement solutions that can bring that value to them, to scale them to the next level? So my role is as Chief Digital Transformation officer for IBM? And how I have a conversation, sea level conversation with executives in relation to how was your business assurance it? What does your business do? How does it work? who's doing what? And how can we do with the innovation? What innovation, what technologies that we can? How does our innovation, our technologies help your business? How can we work together to fill to fulfill this.

I like the fact that you're making it approachable, because let's say I'm Scott sixpack, I have a manufacturing business, and I have a I have a slew of headaches over here. I got on the air over here. And then here comes here comes John, in talking to me about innovation, and I know it too, just for me as a business to be resilient and has some sort of legacy associated with it. I need it. But do I really want to have that conversation? Because it seems like that's more headaches. I don't know. Can you make it simple for me? Can you just sort of put a chip in my head?

It's it's all about keeping It's all about people, period period. It is all about people. The technology is technology. Number one, but how does it people use that technology to scale and elevate your business has conveyed itself? That's not a caption. So think about, you know, what is your business? What are the gaps in your business? What are the processes you have? Are you over processed? Do you have too many procedures? What are connected with

year to year? Yes, they do? And do they have a lot of legacy systems? Yes, they do. And do they have spreadsheets? Yes, they do. So, so, what's great about that, and you're absolutely, and that's a real good conversation. And I think that that's an approachable conversation, I think what's we struggle within some more than others, is the ability to communicate the value in innovation, and, and in in a way that is truly approachable and consumable. And that's really your role.

Yes, you when you look at but you have to cut activity with people, you have to inter accountability, you have the functionality, and you have to structure around. So connecting the dots to the value connecting the dots, optimization, connecting the dots to the future thought leaders in your company. Yep, we want to talk to you, in your company to drive the innovation for you.

Do you ever have conversations as long with that? And I'm going to I'm going to just say, hey, you know, John, that's all great. I love it. I think the future's bright, the innovation is great. And I yeah, I've got plenty of challenges and problems is what will be my my education? How will I find people to be able to say, Yeah, I got it. What do I do about just my workforce? How do I train them? What do I so I'm sort of in that sort of tactical? It's great to be up here. But I'm just like, that problem?

Yes, you have a I mean, every company, no matter what company want to no matter what kind of product you have, we all have to have a strategy. What is your strategy? One is people two is organization structure. Three is education for the people, what tools are they using? The Legacy system topic, we touch on legacy systems, right? Interoperability, we will be talking about data comes in three fashions, right, you have a structure, you have the semantic data, and you have the unstructured data. So when you look at these different levels of this, how can you drive the innovation? It's all got to do with communication? So there is a lot of things that come into play. Now the communication protocol, what is understanding? What are we? What are the values? What are people, what each person is bringing to their department, to their division to their area? How they're how are they connected up? Do we have silos, so knocking down beside with communication? So looking at today, understand the business value where we're going? What does the company do to the, to our customers, for example, to their customers, and so forth? How do you how, with technologies that we've talked before, Scott, technology is technology, so we're not in control of technology, we use technology, and we shifted to the power teams, when we want to move forward in the innovation, we create the innovation to understand the value. So it's understanding the value factor of that area. And then we talk about it, there's many connectivity with multi cloud and so forth. So right now the work is shifting. I mean, we of course, COVID, coming out of COVID, a lot of companies basically hybrid, a lot of the replays are working from home, and some will go back to work. So we'll get into a new era or get into a hybrid era, we're getting to hybrid of innovation, hybrid of empathy, hybrid of understanding fire of self awareness, bringing that together to hey, you know, what, this is what my company does, I get it, I understand it. This is the type of tools I need. This is the kind of infrastructure I need. How do I move forward to that and bring that value proposition to our customers?

I just like the fact that I think the conversation is the point you brought up some really, you know, Jim's like the how COVID, the pandemic has, has impacted, and I believe that businesses will be hybrid, I think there's, it's hard to justify. All right, everybody, come on over here. And we're going to be here and go back to that sort of old model when everybody's sort of feeling oh, I'm okay. But in that comes with the challenges. And we're also talking about not just the people but the culture. And I think you're speaking with sea level individuals to say, hey, let's look at this. Can Do you ever approach companies in a way to say, Hey, this is these are the realities that exist in the marketplace today. And I know that you're dealing with some challenges. Is there some way to be able to incrementally sort of choose and move a portion of the business and then you get the picture? Yeah,

I think it's, I mean, fundamentally hypersurface thing? Yep, absolutely. Absolutely across the board, you got to have a solid, foundational sophisticated technology to drive your bike. There. So the tools are there, the implementation has been working for the last two years, I mean, Dell has proven to factor in relation to we have, we have secured a lot of hybrid solutions for different companies globally, we have escalated in a way that we have come forward to generate a new generation, a new hybrid lead of employee, really, so you have a new hybrid of connectivity, you have a new hybrid of technology to support that the hybrid, then you have to have the hybrid tools, right? So the going into like AI, between HPC, and all of these things that we're talking about today tend to differentiate, they they help talk, like, you know, they 60% of the conversation about AI, what does it AI? What does HPC do for me? What does storage, but all of this is interconnected as well, like, do you have to have to have that conversation? Not on a technical perspective, but on an economical basis, too. Right. So the financial areas when

I think one of the in the right, it always it has to you can't just sort of, you know, implement some of these, you know, digital transformation, innovation, whatever it might be, and it doesn't improve the bottom line. I'm not sure if that that doesn't fly in any any, you know, financial structure. However, what is pretty interesting from that hybrid perspective, many companies are dealing with, I'm having a hard time finding people, or the right people, or the train people that does what, what is interesting, from a hybrid perspective, it's really sort of it doesn't have any geographic location, I can theoretically say, I can't find anybody here in Barstow, California, but I can certainly go to, you know, Nebraska and find that same person that just work remotely. I find the best person in Nebraska, there you

It breaks down boundaries, just completely. So we've written your break down boundaries are breaking down cost, which is your added value as is that customer centric approach, right? That's the value that's one value that's there as well. So you're acting, right, you're you're connected that value, the collectivity, talking to someone, hey, I can get someone in Australia, I guess I'm in Japan, that can work for us. I mean, they go under different levels of communication. But that's something that you can adjust with your company, your business. So aligned in hybrid, multi cloud is the future, it's here to stay, and it's only going to get better.

Oh my god. I think it's great. And I always get geeked out on the technology, the innovation here, but I'm always I know that it's only as good as the people, the culture, the management, whatever it might be, and the vision. And it's that's all has to be nailed down. But I think I think today, and your conversation, and what you represent adult is, is a fertile ground to have those conversations, because I know that. And I'm sure you can validate this, that businesses are looking for help and solutions, and they're looking for trusted people, not just some body that says yeah, you got to do no trust it helped them with this journey.

Exactly. Complete. Sure Exactly. Because what you're what you're doing is that you're building the seeds to inspire and develop for tomorrow. They're building the trust. So you're so we talked about fibers, we talked about connectivity, operability, which with all of this, you have to trust. So you're creating the education for the people to understand what builds trust is awareness. What builds trust is understanding and how you connect that together is communication, data lines that are between any business. So showing the vision is one thing, but then having your people to understand the vision, I drive with your own implemented plans and tactical view of the business portfolio.

in that position. Yes, I I'm in the position relatively new. Yes. But it's, I've been in innovation for last 30 odd years. You see changes? Yeah, I see a lot of changes to growth globally. I remember we used to use the PDAs for example. Yeah. You know, remember the PDAs

Yeah. So it's one thing that I'm always sort of struggling with is is the velocity of this of the innovation. This, you know, last year it was one thing this year, it's it's a leap forward. And next year, in two more years, it's going to be a super leap forward. And it just seems like it's it's accelerating. How do you address a sea level individual and say, Hey, we're here with you, but I know that you're nervous because am I gonna put something in here and I'm gonna do this and then next year, it's like buying the TV. It's like, I could have got that.

Yeah, see when you there's a lot of changes. But to emphasize that change is crucial. So change is good. But all change has to be tested. Change has to be approached with a business approach for the vision of the future, but also with the perspective of what am I doing when legacy systems now? Okay, what legacy systems do you have what innovation tools or technology you need to implement for the new stages of your business, for your new tactical approaches? And by connecting that, of course, because we're talking about hybrid. So connecting all of this to the hype today?

And it's that's all has to be nailed down. But I think I think today, and your conversation, and what you represent adult is, is a fertile ground to have those conversations, because I know that. And I'm sure you can validate this, that businesses are looking for help and solutions, and they're looking for trusted people, not just some body that says yeah, you got to do no trust it helped them with this journey.

Exactly. Complete. Sure Exactly. Because what you're what you're doing is that you're building the seeds to inspire and develop for tomorrow. They're building the trust. So you're so we talked about fibers, we talked about connectivity, operability, which with all of this, you have to trust. So you're creating the education for the people to understand what builds trust is awareness. What builds trust is understanding and how you connect that together is communication, data lines that are between any business. So showing the vision is one thing, but then having your people to understand the vision, I drive with your own implemented plans and tactical view of the business portfolio.

in that position. Yes, I I'm in the position relatively new. Yes. But it's, I've been in innovation for last 30 odd years. You see changes? Yeah, I see a lot of changes to growth globally. I remember we used to use the PDAs for example. Yeah. You know, remember the PDAs

Yeah. So it's one thing that I'm always sort of struggling with is is the velocity of this of the innovation. This, you know, last year it was one thing this year, it's it's a leap forward. And next year, in two more years, it's going to be a super leap forward. And it just seems like it's it's accelerating. How do you address a sea level individual and say, Hey, we're here with you, but I know that you're nervous because am I gonna put something in here and I'm gonna do this and then next year, it's like buying the TV. It's like, I could have got that.

Yeah, see when you there's a lot of changes. But to emphasize that change is crucial. So change is good. But all change has to be tested. Change has to be approached with a business approach for the vision of the future, but also with the perspective of what am I doing when legacy systems now? Okay, what legacy systems do you have what innovation tools or technology you need to implement for the new stages of your business, for your new tactical approaches? And by connecting that, of course, because we're talking about hybrid. So connecting all of this to the hype today?
